Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

• biopsy-proven NAFLD, determined within 12 months of study initiation

Exclusion Criteria:

• > 20 grams of alcohol/day

• impaired oral glucose tolerance test

• known diagnosis of diabetes mellitus

• hepatitis C infection

• cirrhosis
